Foundation of the TAFF
Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TAFF) was established as a result of merging of Land, Naval and Air Force Foundations, that were established in the 1960s and 1970s with the donations of the Turkish people in order to develop the defence systems and products of the Turkish Armed Forces based on modern technology, under the TAFF Law no. 3388 on 17 June 1987 and started its activities on 26 September 1987.
Based on the decision of TAFF Board of Trustees dated 24 January 1992 to carry out fair services covering the defence industry under the management and responsibility of TAFF Directorate, IDEF International Defence Industry Fairs started to be held every two years since 1993.
As of the end of 2022, TAFF;
* has established a deep heart bond with more than 180.000 donors.
* is the direct or indirect shareholder of a total of 60 companies (6 subsidiaries, 8 affiliates and 46 indirect subsidiaries), each of which plays important roles in key areas of the Turkish Defence Industry.
* is proud to successfully carry out the management and responsibility of 15 IDEF International Defence Industry Fairs between 1993-2019 and to conduct the preparations of the IDEF 2021 Fair.

IDEF 1993
The 1st edition of IDEF was held on 13-19 September 1993 for 7 days at the Türkkuşu Facilities in Ankara, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

IDEF 1995
After the first fair, which lasted 1 week, it was decided to organize the next fairs for 4 days.
The 2nd edition of IDEF was held on 20-23 September 1995, at the Türkkuşu Facilities in Ankara, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

The 3rd edition of IDEF was held on 23-26 September 1997, at the Türkkuşu Facilities in Ankara, by the organization of CNR International Fairs Inc.

75th Year Ankara Hippodrome, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

IDEF Fairs, which has been serving the purpose of introducing the national defence industry to the world since the beginning, became an important international promotion, marketing and cooperation platform especially after 2005, in the fields of defence, security, maritime, aviation and space industry, and has become one of the four biggest defence industry fairs in the world in terms of the number of participating companies and delegations.

Starting from this edition, the period when the IDEF Fairs were organized has changed from September-October to April-May. This change has been important in the fair's increasing success rate.
The 8th edition of IDEF was held on 22-25 May 2007, at the 75th Year Ankara Hippodrome, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

IDEF 2009
The growing area needs of the IDEF each year were first met within the existing facilities in Ankara, and after 2009 it was solved by moving the Fair to a professional fair area in Istanbul. In addition, the product range exhibited at the Fair has expanded and naval vehicles as well as land and air vehicles have started to be exhibited.
The 9th edition of IDEF was held on 27-30 April 2009, at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Centre İstanbul, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

The 14th edition of IDEF was held on 30 April-03 May 2019, at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Centre İstanbul, by the organization of TÜYAP Fairs and Exhibitions Organization Inc.

* 587 delegation members from 70 countries and 3 international organisations participated.
